Entrust People Director Ryan Watson has been welcomed into the Scottish Cricket Hall of Fame. The ex-international cricketer was officially inducted at a recent ceremony during the interval of the Scotland v Australia game at the Grange.
Ryan, Director of the IT and Clinical Resourcing Company based in the North East of Scotland, began his cricketing career in South Africa, where he was born. He started off by representing South African schools and then went on to captain Transvaal Under-24s in 1996. He became a professional player at the age of 19, after moving to Scotland, where he began playing as a club professional for Meigle, Falkland and Forfarshire and qualifying by residence to play for Scotland.
Ryan said: “It is a huge honour to be inducted into the Scottish Cricket Hall of Fame. The opportunity to play for Scotland has allowed me to fulfill some amazing dreams and play in some wonderful countries and being welcomed into the Hall of Fame is a privilege and a real icing on the cake.”
Ryan ended his professional cricket career in 2010 with a record number of 4967 runs for Scotland. His run scoring made him the most effective batsman of his era and he played a big part in Scotland’s success by winning the Intercontinental Cup and the ICC Trophy. Ryan still plays club cricket with local team Glenrothes CC today.
During his cricketing career, he also spent time working on his other passion – the world of resourcing. Working with Global Resourcing Companies Adecco UK and Manpower, Ryan had the experience he needed to set up Entrust People upon retirement from cricket. Three years on, Ryan and Fellow Director Austin Clark, have seen the business grow and expand rapidly.
Ryan continued: “Although the worlds of cricket and resourcing are quite different, there are similarities! When I started out playing for Scotland we had to punch above our weight and scrap and fight for every victory against the bigger Nations and Counties and it’s been exactly the same with Entrust against the established agencies. I’m channeling that same drive and ambition into our business and look forward to us being welcomed into a Resourcing Hall of Fame one day!”
