Entrust Clinical People were delighted to attend Scottish Life Sciences Association’s annual members event at the RBS Conference Centre in Gogarburn last week. Around 200 members attended a fantastic reception where SLA’s new Chair, Dr Ken Sutherland of Toshiba Medical Visualisation Systems, addressed the audience for the first time. In his address Ken paid tribute to Dr John Brown, who recently completed his tenure as SLA Chairman whilst also highlighting the continued strong growth in Scotland’s life sciences sector. He commented:
“Life Sciences is a sector which is flourishing here in Scotland. A diverse cluster of companies operate in every part of the health care market, from research through clinical studies to manufacturing, researching everything from disinfectants to new cancer drugs and making everything from bionic hands to eye scanners.”
Dr Ken Sutherland is a great addition as the Chair of the SLA at such a momentous time for Scotland. He brings a wealth of international experience to a growing life sciences sector, which in the future will need our products more than ever.
During his address, Dr Sutherland discussed how the Nucana funding of £35m earlier this year was the largest ever private investment in a life sciences company in Scotland. This is an example showcasing that a Scottish-based company can raise substantial funds from international investors in this key sector of the Scottish economy.
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Gogarburn; the event ran seamlessly, the speeches and panel were interesting and relevant and it presented a great platform to engage in discussion with like-minded industry professionals.
