The role of Senior Consultant Scientist will to work in the Process Development Group, providing technical expertise and scientific oversight for downstream process development of new biotechnology pipeline products.

Specifically, the role involves developing and refining downstream processes in the laboratory, scaling up to our pilot plant for production of pivotal batches, and establishing the process design space and control strategy for commercial manufacture.

Role Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute sound laboratory program in support of development efforts
  • Thorough understanding of statistical approaches to experimental design
  • Ability to analyse, interpret, and document data
  • Ability to communicate (verbally and written) results effectively to key stakeholders and work flexibly to overcome issues and barriers encountered.
  • Knowledge of “Quality by Design” principles
  • Facilitate commercialization of new therapeutic proteins
  • Design and execute research plan to develop a robust control strategy
  • Lead and/or contribute to phase appropriate risk assessments
  • Thorough understanding of the Single Process Map requirements and deliverables
  • Develop close alignment to supporting functions, including Manufacturing Operations, Project/Process Engineering and Quality Control Labs to ensure that process improvements can effectively be delivered at manufacturing scale.
  • Apply technical expertise to scientific problems to support TS/MS activities
  • Understand the commercial scale operations to effectively develop scalable laboratory models
  • Able to apply historical experience to current studies
  • Able to work in cross-functional atmosphere
  • Explore and foster emerging technologies that may be applied to developing and controlling processes
  • Ensure adherence to safe laboratory practices
  • Produce high quality technical reports

About You

  • You will have a strong knowledge of protein chemistry, understanding of potential CQAs, analytical tools, and use of statistically designed experiments.
  • A strong working knowledge of downstream processing techniques and be prepared to be hands on at all stages
  • PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or related discipline (senior, several years’ experience in the development or manufacturing of therapeutic proteins.)
  • Deep understanding of technologies used in therapeutic protein manufacturing
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving abilities
  • Willingness to be hands on at all stages from lab to pilot plant
