The role of Senior Reagent Scientist will lead the development of on-strip reagents for assay platforms as part of the reagent development team. As part of this you will develop reagents scientists to optimise their performance in their role.

You will also lead investigations and problem-solving strategies and initiate the development of new reagent preparation routes. You will also lead scale up of reagents.

Role Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of on-strip assay reagents for multiple assays.
  • Lead the development and optimisation of coupling chemistries used in preparation of antibody-coated microparticles.
  • Lead the development and optimisation of coupling chemistries used in preparation of fluorophore-labelled conjugates.
  • Lead the design and development of in-process tests to track and trend performance of assay reagents.
  • Lead investigations and troubleshooting activities to find root causes and effective, robust solutions.
  • Find effective routes forward in solving technical challenges.
  • Plan and prioritise bodies of work to meet challenging deadlines while taking into account the needs of multiple teams.
  • Initiate development of new reagent preparation routes to optimise performance, stability and robustness of reagents.
  • Input into validation and verification activities.
  • Lead the scale up of reagents processes including both antibody conjugate and microparticle coating procedures.
  • Manage and develop reagents scientists and technicians within the team.
  • Provide updates to technical leads and directors when required.
  • Design, execute and analyse appropriate experiments for the purpose of assessing and improving assay reagent formulations.
  • Create and maintain quality records for the purpose of recording and documenting reagent development progress and associated experiments.
  • Ensure that developed reagents are capable of meeting the required performance stability and cost requirements of assay platforms.
  • Complete COSHH assessments as and when required.
  • Train team members and new personnel in appropriate procedures.
  • Ensure work in conjunction with the quality policy and objectives.
  • Technically review change controls and peer review laboratory note books.

About You

You will have had to demonstrated experience and show knowledge in the following areas:

  • Extensive experience in a reagents focused role within the medical diagnostics industry.
  • Detailed knowledge of different coupling chemistries for functionalization of microparticles with antibodies or enzymes and the ability to further develop and optimise these to meet the needs of different assays.
  • Detailed knowledge of different coupling chemistries for forming antibody-enzyme and the ability to further develop and optimise these to meet the needs of different assays.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of characterisation techniques used to access antibody conjugates and microparticles.
  • High level of skills in problem solving and innovation
  • Ability to follow complex protocols accurately and provide ideas for possible
  • Experience in troubleshooting and finding routes forward.
  • Experience in validation and verification of immunoassay reagents.
  • Experience in scale up of antibody conjugate and microparticle based processes.
  • Experience in managing and mentoring other scientists and technicians.
  • Ability to write clear and concise protocols for complex reagent manufacturing procedures.
  • Raising, investigating and closing non-conformances to agreed timelines.
  • Ability to update procedures as necessary.
  • Detailed knowledge of diagnostic immunoassay technology.
