They are currently recruiting for a full time Molecular Virologist Scientist to assist in developing the virology capability and have responsibly for the contaminated level 3 laboratory facility. You will also assist in molecular assay methodology.

Role Responsibility

  • Develop the generation, propagation, and characterization of cell culture models for microbiological agents generated in-house to support the molecular team diagnostic assay development.
  • Perform the key role of Biological Safety Officer (BSO) for the containment level 3 (CL3) laboratory.
  • Quantify viral and bacterial DNA/RNA using qPCR techniques and perform biochemical assays (e.g. ELISA, Western blot) to support assay development.
  • Maintain mammalian cell cultures and provide assistance with upcoming assay targets.
  • Design and develop clinical sample testing on the organisations platform.
  • Solve problems encountered during assay development innovatively and independently.
  • Train and support peers when required.
  • Work within a QMS system.

About You

Essential Skills:

  • Degree qualified in molecular virology or other relevant scientific discipline with 1-4 years of relevant academic or industry research experience.
  • Extensive experience propagating and maintaining BBVs or other viral cultures
  • Extensive experience of working in a CL3 laboratory.
  • Scientific background in biology, molecular biology, cellular biology, or virology.
  • Experience in multiple in vitro techniques, including mammalian cell culture, RNA isolation, PCR, qRT-PCR, transfection, ELISA, and western blot.
  • Experience of working within a QMS system.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working as a BSO within a CL3 lab.
  • Knowledge of design controls and other relevant regulatory requirements
  • Experience with cell-based assay development.
  • Experience using automated liquid handlers.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of factors which drive molecular assay performance (including sensitivity, contamination, reproducibility and precision).
  • Knowledge and experience working with various isothermal amplification techniques and/or detailed understanding of PCR and primer design
