They are currently recruiting for a full time Assay Development Scientist to assist in assist in the development of diagnostic assays for the organisations Technology platform as part of the assay development team. Other responsibilities will be as follows:

Role Responsibilities

  • Develop assay methodologies for use in the company’s Technology assay platform.
  • Design and execute appropriate experiments for the purpose of assessing and improving the assay to meet the required performance, stability and cost requirements.
  • Plan and carry out batch ordering and meter testing and develop new testing protocols
  • Analyse experimental data generated and make the appropriate scientific conclusions and suggest next steps required.
  • Recommend solutions to problems encountered during the running of experiments and suggest improvements to the experimental design if required.
  • Solve problems encountered during assay development innovatively and independently.
  • Help less experienced members of the assay development team to carry out experiments effectively when required.
  • Create and maintain quality records for the purpose of assessing and improving assay methodologies and documenting experiments.
  • Writing and updating procedures.
  • Raising, investigating and closing non-conformances to agreed timelines.
  • Calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Completing COSHH assessments as and when required.
  • Ensuring you are trained on all appropriate procedures and training new personnel if and when required.
  • Technically reviewing change controls and peer reviewing laboratory note books.
  • Ensuring you work in conjunction with the quality policy and objectives.

About You

Essential Skills:

  • Knowledge and understanding of factors which drive assay performance (including sensitivity, range, stability, reproducibility and precision).
  • Skills in problem solving and innovation.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic immunoassay technology.
  • Knowledge of fluorescent detection methods.
  • Ability to write clear and concise protocols for complex assay methodologies.
  • Ability to follow a protocol precisely and offer recommendations for improvements.
  • Ability to identify and investigate non-conformances.
  • Ensure laboratory books and other records are accurate and timely.
  • Computer literacy and data analysis skills.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience of using particle-based immunoassays
  • Understanding of factors important to reagent stability, non-specific binding, batch to batch variability and assay interferences
  • Knowledge of validation and verification testing
  • Experience of GMP / GLP / GDP standards
  • Experience and understanding of factors important in reagent preparation and drying for use in immunoassays
  • Experience working in the medical device industry
  • Knowledge and experience of working within a biohazard environment
  • Experience managing laboratory technicians
