Assistant Packaging Engineer

Location: Kent

Entrust People are supporting a Global Consumer Goods client who have a vacancy for an Assistant Packaging Engineer

You will report into and support the Senior Packaging Technologist and focus on the practicality of packaging therefore will be focused heavily on operations and machinery.

This position is initially for 6 months with the potential to be extended further.


 Product Development

  • Manage the procurement of project component samples & associated documentation,

  • Support the Packaging Engineer with component testing/validation, line trials, PTN document writing, systems management (drawing files, sample collation and filing)

  • Execute approved PTN testing plans, monitor sampling and collate statistical data and issue sampling reports in conjunction with PTN report

  • Offer factory support for pack design related engineering issues

  • Implement transport testing for pack material changes to assure outer packaging and pallet designs are sufficient to deliver high quality product to customers

  • Assist with industrial line trials: monitor materials, conduct data recording, and set up trial timing as agreed with Production and Engineering

  • Produce reports & data for the assembly of legal technical dossiers and customer specifications

  • Identification of new product ideas and cost initiatives in the delivery of duties

Quality Improvement

  • Assist with quality investigations regarding pack performance through the production line

  • Input to Production & Quality documentation systems, like POKA

External Communication

  • Interface with R&D, Marketing, Procurement & third-party manufacturers to obtain change approvals and transmit information to the Packaging Technologist for Specification development and trial samples 

Health & Safety

  • To ensure that they are aware of, understand and follow all Company Health & Safety instructions - accident/incident reporting, first aid etc.

  • Report any accidents or near misses to the Health & Safety Manager.

About You

  • Technical orientation with interest in statistical data, sciences/design or equivalent industry experience in production or engineering 

  • Good communication skills, both verbally and written

  • Good time management and understanding of production environments

  • Ownership mentality, with strong results orientation and attention to detail

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, work cross-functionally/internationally, and deliver against company business goals and objectives.

  • Good computer skills with knowledge of database programs, SAP, Excel, Word Office

  • Proven delivery of projects
